Name - Mack and Diesel
Nicknames - The Boys, The Bros
Age - Adult
Weight - 118lbs, 125lbs, respectively
Medical - Both boys had cherry eye removal surgery in April when we first pulled them. Mack’s has healed well. Diesel has had to have several follow up surgeries due to his third eyelid being abnormally large. Diesel has slight hip dysplasia in his back left leg. Both boys get a Dasuquin supplement and fish oil twice a day for joint health
Other dogs - Both boys tested well with large and small dogs at the shelter. Due to their incredible bond, in order to be adopted into a home with an existing dog, the resident dog would either need to be a co-exister or incredibly tolerant and well-balanced
Cats - Both boys tested well with cats. Mack was afraid and avoided, Diesel wanted to play
Kids - The boys are fostered with 3 children, ages 2-6. Mack is more wary and keeps his distance, Diesel thinks everyone is his friend. He is not always aware of his size and has knocked the little ones over on accident. He always says he’s sorry with kisses :)
Housing - Ideally the boys will be placed in a home with a yard or townhome/condo with some sort of patio space, as they do enjoy chasing each other around outside
Background - The boys were abandoned in an overnight drop box at a shelter north of San Diego with awful cherry eyes. We suspect they were from a breeder as they were both unaltered and once they realized they had medical issues they were dumped
Crate trained - They are used to eating and sleeping in their crates. They need to be in the XXXL size (Mastiff, Great Dane size) so they have plenty of room to stand up and turn around. Their crates are pushed up right next to each other
Leash trained - They both walk pretty well on leash, Mack edging out Diesel for best behaved
Housebroken - Neither have had any accidents and will go to the door to be let out
Eating Habits - Neither are picky eaters
Commands known - “sit”, “crate”, “lay down”, “come”, “wait”, “out”
Car rides - Ride well in cars
Bath time - Not their favorite but they don’t seem to mind too much
Affectionate - Both boys are cuddlers and want to be as close to you as possible. Mack is more the one to want to climb into your lap (yes, he thinks he’s a lap dog) and fall asleep on you
Activity level - Perfect mix of playful and couch potatoes. Mastiff’s aren’t exactly built for endurance or speed so a walk around the block is good exercise for them
Play style - The boys love to chase each other around the yard. It’s quite the spectacle to watch! Diesel also likes chasing after my son while Mack will play bow and bark them on. Diesel will occasionally play fetch
Bad habits - When Mack gets really excited he jumps up and “boxes” you with his paws. Diesel LOVES to chew on things that he’s not supposed to. Kids toys, brushes, shoes, towels, you name it. He does know “out” when you catch him
Redeeming qualities - They are both so sweet! They’re intelligent and sensitive and love each other so much
Best feature - Their flappy floopy faces. Mack also has very expressive eyes. They are both just gorgeous dogs!
What Foster Mom/Dad wants you to know - The Boys are really special. Mack just melts your heart. Not quite as playful as Diesel, he loves to be as close to you as possible. He is more reserved and wary of new people and new situations. He has come out of his shell a lot in the last few months but will need a family who will continue to expose him to the outside world to build up his confidence. Diesel is the class clown. He has all the confidence and then some. He thinks everyone is his new best friend. He’s a little stubborn and will always find trouble to get into but he means no harm. He’s just so full of life and joy. The boys are bonded and truly each other’s yin to the other’s yang. The perfect mix of sweet and sassy, affectionate and playful, serious and naughty. They will add so much joy to one very lucky family’s home!
